Canning

Until recently, canning has mainly been employed by the larger breweries as the equipment involved has been too large and too expensive for microbreweries. That has all changed now with Wild Goose Engineering manufacturing a cost-effective can filler and seamer for microbreweries. In the USA, many microbreweries now market their premium products in cans. The Craft Cans website has an up-to-date list of which breweries are canning their products.

Canning does have some benefits over bottling, including:

  • The beer cannot become lightstruck
  • There is no need for crown seals or a labeler and labels
  • Cans are lighter
  • Cans are easier to recycle
  • Cans chill down quicker

The Wild Goose Engineering Micro-Can system video is worth viewing and below is a flier that can be downloaded.

The can line at the Breckenridge Brewery in Denver is one of the latest Wild Goose Engineering installations. The model installed is the MC250 and it runs at 34 to 36 cans per minute.

The minimum order quantity for cans is one 20ft container or equivalent, which is 56,016 cans (8 pallets). However, the minimum print run is 28,000 cans (4 pallets), so two print designs can be included within the minimum order quantity.

Brewtique can design, install and commission a can line to meet your requirements.
